Gilt-Decoration

Lacquerware is craft with lacquer applied to the surface of the fetal bone, which is often wood, bamboo, copper or other materials. It is an ancient craftsmanship that is functional and decorative.

Lacquerware is widely used, from architectural furnishings, palace ordinance supplies, furniture, to daily necessities and stationeries, as it has bright colour and is light and heat insulated.

Gold painting is an early form of decoration on the surface of lacquerware, often on black lacquer. The earliest known lacquerware using gilt-decoration technique was found in the Warring States Period.

Throughout different dynasties, a number of decorative techniques are developed and applied to the lacquerware, such as filling lacquer, luodian, carved lacquer, etc., and gilt painting is an early form of decoration in lacquerware. The earliest known lacquerware using gilt painting technique was found in the Warring States Period.
