Savoir-Faire:The Mastery of Craft in Fashion

Exhibitions Date:
13th Dec 2021 - 14th Feb 2022
Venue: K11 MUSEA

Celebrating boundless creativity and dedication, K11 MUSEA is set to open one of the most prestigious fashion exhibitions ever featured in Asia. Savoir-Faire: The Mastery of Craft in Fashion spans 30 years of iconic fashion design and over 700 years of Chinese heritage arts through the shared lens of exceptional craftsmanship. This rare multi-brand exhibition is presented by New World Development CEO Adrian Cheng and Carine Roitfeld, former Editor-in-Chief of VOGUE Paris. It’s less a retrospective and more a visual manifesto, immersing visitors into the mesmerising world of haute couture and prêt-à-porter from the world’s biggest designers, including never-before-seen pieces from the most coveted maisons. Covering the early 1990s to contemporary collections, Savoir-Faire exemplifies the mastery of ‘know-how’) as a compelling and vital force that the most talented designers’ and couturiers’ use to articulate their visions. The displays also reveal the evolving aesthetics of fashion, from the most revered fashion houses to the most avant-garde independent designers. It also delves into the history and mastery of craft in rare Chinese artefacts and modern pieces from the archives of K11 Craft & Guild Foundation (KCG), Asia’s first creative platform for cultural contemplation focusing on conserving and preserving Chinese traditional craftsmanship.

The world-class exhibition serves as a rare occasion for the public to appreciate the extraordinary metamorphosis of savoir-faire in both fashion and art, in the use of technology and innovation, and to witness the inspiration and progress in styles and movements while celebrating the timeless purity of craftsmanship itself. With that, Savoir-Faire hopes to emphasise the importance of couture and Chinese crafts as artistic visions.

THE SAVOIR-FAIRE JOURNEY

Organised thematically into five rooms – ‘Modern Reinvention’, ‘Atelier Tailleur’, ‘Extreme Craft’, ‘Bridal Couture’, and ‘Tales From The Runway’ – the show is designed to be visually and physically immersive, with each room revealing fascinating stories behind each unique piece. The carefully curated selection not only includes magnificent historic designs from the world’s biggest fashion icons, but rare pieces from Roitfeld’s private collection and items that have never been showcased before.
